What To Expect After Water, Fire Or Mold Damage To Your Home Or Business

At Certified Restoration Group, we understand how overwhelming and confusing it can be when dealing with water, fire or mold damage to your home or business. From removing and mitigating the damage, to working with you and your insurance provider, our team of highly trained professionals will guide you through every step of the process.

STEP 1: Damage Inspection (Timing: Week 1, Day 1 | Duration: 2-4 Hours)

We begin every job by inspecting and assessing the damage by using specialized equipment on the damaged areas to determine the extent of the damage and how we can prevent further damage. We will also take photos, videos, notes and sketches of the affected areas. Based on the property, we may also test for lead, asbestos and/or mold. Once finished, our technicians will have a thorough plan to mitigate the damage.

STEP 2: Mitigation (Timing: Week 1, Days 1-5 | Duration: Varies Based on Type and Severity of Damage)

  • Water Damage: We will extract all the water from your home by setting up specialized and event-specific equipment. To ensure there are no secondary damages such as fungal growth (?mold?), staining, and odors, we will also use antimicrobial disinfectant to destroy and prevent various growth. To thoroughly dry your property, our technicians may also make cuts and holes in your walls/sheetrock, remove flooring, and/or remove base molding and cabinetry. Throughout the drying process, a technician will return to your home to conduct detailed moisture readings and assess the effectiveness of the equipment. Once your property has reached the dry standard, we will remove the equipment and complete the job.
  • Fire Damage: We will use dehumidifiers and air movers to remove the remaining water and complete the drying process. We will then use specialized equipment and techniques to remove odors, smoke and soot from ceilings, walls, and other surfaces.
  • Mold Damage: We will use various containment procedures to prevent the spread of mold. All fans and heating and cooling systems will be turned off, and specialized filtration equipment will be used to capture microscopic mold spores out of the air. Removing and disposing of mold-infested porous materials, like drywall and carpeting, may be necessary to remediate heavy mold growth.

STEP 3: Pack Out Contents (Timing: Week 1, Days 1-5 | Duration: Varies)
Based on the damage incurred, your contents may need to be relocated. Whether your entire house must be emptied or just a room, our technicians will use the latest technology to carefully inventory, pack, and store your property.

STEP 4: Insurance Estimate (Timing: Week 1, Days 1-5 | Duration: 2 Hours)
While our technicians work to mitigate the damage, one of our estimators will visit your home or business to take detailed notes, photos and videos of all the affected areas. This enables us to send an accurate invoice to your insurance company. Your insurance company may send an adjuster as well to prepare their own estimate.

STEP 5: Insurance Review (Timing: Weeks 2-4 | Duration: Varies Based on Insurance Company)
We will send our invoice, photos and any supporting details directly to your insurance company for review. This process may take several weeks depending on your insurance provider. Unfortunately, this is not something we can control.

Step 6: Payment
As a convenience to you, one of our insurance claims specialists will work with your insurance company to secure payment for our services. If your insurance claim is approved by your insurance company, in most cases, the payment will be sent directly to our office. If needed, we may contact you to coordinate your endorsement on the check. Occasionally, the insurance company will send the claim payment check to your mailing address. Please note that although we are willing to work with your insurance company to collect payment for our services, you are responsible for all payment.

NEXT PHASE: RECONSTRUCTION
After mitigation, you will need to hire a construction company to reconstruct your home/business. During reconstruction, the property is restored to its pre-damaged state via repairs and/or replacements to the flooring, cabinetry, structure & roofing, as needed. The reconstruction phase can take several weeks, depending on your insurance company and the severity of the project.
